Gummy's contract with YG Entertainment has been revealed to be expired.

According to a music industry insider, Gummy's contract with YG Entertainment for her Korean promotions has already expired and her contract for her Japanese promotions is set to end shortly.

Rumors are floating around that Gummy will choose not to renew her contract with YG Entertainment and move on to another agency. A representative revealed, "Gummy recently held meetings with various agencies. Rather than renewing her contract, Gummy is leaning towards signing with a new agency."

A YG Entertainment representative responded, "It is true that Gummy's contract has expired. However, Gummy has been with YG Entertainment for over 10 years, and she's part of the family. Gummy is a member of the YG Family just like Se7en and Jinusean are. Although Se7en and Jinusean's contracts with YG Entertainment have expired, they are still considered members of the YG Family. We are currently in discussion with Gummy. We will respect whatever decision Gummy makes and continue to support her."

Seeing how YG Entertainment has been busy with their large roster of artists and Gummy hasn't released a Korean album since 2010, do you think it might be wise for her to sign with another agency?

I hope she goes to another agency. Such an amazing vocalist and she shouldn't have to wait 3 years to have a comeback.

I swear for a second I thought 'Why did OP put a pic of Lee Taemin in this post...'

As for this, I hope to God she chooses another agency, I've hated how YG let her career just stagnate (well, everyone who wasn't Big Bang suffered, YG can't even handle more than one and a half artists at any given time apparently). If they're really her 'family' they can support her elsewhere too.

THIS SFM. She is extremely talented, but YG fucked up her career with comebacks once in several years, not to mention rare concerts and no dvds - if they'd ever released her solo-concerts on dvd, I'd buy all of them no matter of the price.
I hope Gummy will find another agency, where she will be treated like a queen she is.

Get out Gummy get out out out. Not that YGE doesn't seem nice I'm sure they've had their great periods but YG's eyes are filled with his shiny newbies and Gummy is just going going to get pushed aside.

Good for her! She should go looking for another company, one that will invest in her.

On one hand, she's not getting any oportunities at YG.
But way back when, Gummy, Wheesung and Big Mama all had joint YG/M-Boat contracts. When those contracts expired, Gummy stayed with YG, Big Mama with M-Boat, and Wheesung joined a new agency. And only Gummy managed to stay relevant. Big Mama disbanded, Wheesung's later albums flopped. You can't underestimate the power of a big agency.

imo it would be stupid of YG to let her go. It's artists like her that give YG the image of being more than an idol factory. If she goes, Se7en's gone and not coming back, 1TYM and Jinusean are inactive, all YG will have is PSY, Big Bang, 2NE1, and Lee Hi/a bunch of rookies yet to prove themselves.

All of this.

I kinda imagined her staying at YG working behind the scenes like jinusean and teddy long after she performing.

That would be amazing. YG + kpop need more female producers/writers etc. I'd love to see her work with 2NE1.

Were Wheesung's later albums actual flops? Weren't "Insomnia" and "Trickling" released after he left YG? I thought those songs at least were pretty successful? Besides, he's been doing pretty well for himself in terms of producing, composing, and writing song lyrics. I don't think things have been thaaaaat bad for Wheesung.

the korean music scene is really tough! i'm not sure if other agencies can do a better job for her, given that they too have their own roster of younger and more popular idols. whichever way she goes, i wish her the best. and yes, i'd rather that she stay with YG and help nurture future talents. :)

I think YG is just focusing on his younger generation artists and those that really gives him more profit.

I hope she goes to another agency. YG seems more interested in the moneymakers than artists like her.

mfte with artist hoarder. it's like, yeah, i think yge's music is really good but i never get to hear it so even if it's not as good as yge at least i'll have SOMETHING

You are so on point with the term 'artist hoarder'. They have great material/producers/singers they just use them incorrectly or not at all

uhhh she wasn't necessarily locked up though?

I mean sure she hasn't released an album IN KOREA. But she had promotions for her latest OST earlier this year (which kicked ass in the digital charts btw).

She was in I Am A Singer for awhile and released songs from that too. She also shows up at Voice Korea every now and then.

She released 2 japanese mini albums accompanied with full radio show appearances and performances.

She held concerts, fanmeeting and guested on way too many of people's concerts. She was practically the "go to" guest for Daesung's whole japanese tour.

If people actually cared, they'd know all of that...but lbr, most people don't care.

Yes, she could have been promoted more, yes she could have released more albums but from what i've been seeing in the past years her albums, heck even herself is really not that popular anymore compared to her OSTs. And I don't think transferring to another company will change that.

Will her possible new company give focus on her than YG? MOST LIKELY.

She needs to leave that lizard and his flying monkey circus.

What's the point of being in a big company when you are just sitting on a shelf rotting.

OT but I hope that Baek Kyung and Jin from 1TYM have severed all ties with YG as well.

BaekKyoung & Teddy are the only ones from 1TYM that actually still works with YG. Baek isn't under any contract but he still lends his hand. Jinhwan still works with BaekKyoung but not YG.

Danny isn't contracted anymore, but still visits and is very much connected still. He works for MNET America.

Not sure if a new agency can change her career for better as Koreans don't really buy non idol artists' albums unless they have built up a large following in some audition show and sadly I Am A Singer didn't revive her career much. At this point her best bet is just to keep on releasing OSTs in whichever agency she signs with. (Well of course she could totally change her image and music into some dance pop stuff and release a new Gangnam Style, but I doubt she would want that)

YG takes too much time. Join another company Gummy, but a big one. Now that YG has Lee Hi, Gummy is gonna get scraps.

Gummy has been promoting in other ways and in other countries so she isn't in the basement.

The main concern is she isn't a fresh faced idol and/or star and probably won't get the attention she deserves at any agency.

At the end of the day she's been around 10 years and is still releasing OSTs and albums while a lot of her contemporaries are not.

Also surprised that YG slipped in that note of support for Se7en while also emphasizing his lack of a contract lol

though i think yg shouldn't let her go, i think she SHOULD go. if that makes sense. bad for yg but good for her.

if she leaves that means that big bang are officially the sunbaes of yge in terms of still being under contract and promoting under yge? top's like 25. weird thought.

YGE is done trying to make non-idols happen, but I don't think she's going to ever be any more relevant than she is now, even with a new company.
