Lee Hyori, a celebrity with many nicknames from sexy diva to social-tainer (coined term from “entertainer who actively advocates for social justice”), has named her successor.
On July 2, she made a special appearance on “Story On Woman Show” where she was asked, “Who do you pick as your successor?” Lee Hyori answered, “The junior singer who will take my place is IU. She will greatly surpass me with her special appeal.”
She explained, “I’m me. Other people are awesome, of course, but that’s their charm. I don’t think that there is someone just like me.”
Lee Hyori continued, “When I was promoting as a soloist, I respected senior Uhm Jung Hwa. Whenever I thought about thoughts like ‘Aren’t I old now? To be considered a dance singer now…’ I would think of senior Uhm Jung Hwa. I thought that I have to be a singer that will give juniors that kind of strength. Whenever they’re tired and want to give up, [they can think] ‘Ah, there was Hyori unni. I want to try like Hyori unni.’”
She advised, “ It’s good that they have those kinds of thoughts, but it would be hard to become like me if they thoughtlessly copy me.”
Lee Hyori previously shared at an interview when she just released her third album “It’s Hyorish” in 2008, “Even if I turn sixty years old, I think I’ll still be sexy.”

Date: 2013-07-05 05:54 am (UTC)hyori is exactly what she said, hyori. she's herself and everyone else will be themselves but like her outspokeness and activism is something that's kind of unique and cool for her and im not so sure with everyone's ~rly refined~ images that itll come down to the same thing. there's no use for comparisons.

Date: 2013-07-05 06:02 am (UTC)Honestly, Hyori's successor has to be someone who can perform (whether it be variety, dancing or singing), has an awesome stage presence and of course, sex appeal ;)
If we're talking about solo singers, then I think Ailee would be an awesome choice :)
I would've chosen Hyunah...But that girl needs to work on her singing first >.>no subject

Date: 2013-07-05 06:20 am (UTC)look at how she moves around a stage and look at how hyori does it. the difference is HUGE. i think young stars trying for sexy dont quite get sexy IS vs sexy DOES so they end up looking try hard while stars like hyori have this effortless sexy charm.
i dont think there's any star who can replicate hyori's success/ image per say...all of the ppl i'm thinking of go really hard.
i REALLY want kahi to take the mantle. she's not that great of a singer but she can dance her ass off and she's one hell of a performer. can u imagine what she could've done with h-logic's sound?!

Date: 2013-07-05 06:57 am (UTC)That said, I do have Ga In on my shortlist and I see promise in Hyorin & Ye Eun as well. I doubt someone can truly be as revered as her but whoever it is will need to be an all around performer and someone everybody can love & support. For now, Hyori still takes the top to me but I'm sure others will disagree ;3

Date: 2013-07-05 06:59 am (UTC)Personally, I think Hyuna. Even from "Change" I got a young Hyori vibe from Hyuna.

Date: 2013-07-05 07:04 am (UTC)Personally, I doubt anyone will ever be able to mirror her image, but my closest bet would be Ailee cos girl is flaw free, especially in terms of vocal range/lives

Date: 2013-07-05 07:10 am (UTC)people are mentioning hyuna and and ailee, which would be my choices. imo ailee (the real queen) has already surpassed everyone, even hyori. she has /everything/, she just needs more time and exposure. it's true hyuna can't really sing and a lot of people don't like her, but i find her most similar to hyori's style, especially in terms of that effortless charisma. we could also throw in hyorin, who imo is also better than hyori. a lot of idol girls have the potential to be the next hyori tbh.
but iu?????? lol.
