hongki

F.T. Island's Hongki is quite the enthusiast when it comes to nail art, as his fans know, so it probably comes as no surprise that he'll soon become the first male celebrity in Korea to release a nail art book!
Not only is this book his first solo publishing since his debut, it's also on a subject that not many touch - men's nail art. However, there are bound to be tips in that girls can learn  from as well!
His label commented, "He's going to be revealing his own nail art design and philosophy through the book. He'll also be talking about the various episodes, such as how he got to communicate through nail art with fans, as well as the nail art he designed for fans."
The book will be released on the 12th in both Korea and Japan, so if you're into nail art, or you're just eager for anything Hongki related, pick up a copy!

Hongki has climbed to the top of Japan's Tower Record chart with his nail art book!
The F.T. Island member is well-known for his love of nail art, and 'Lee Hongki's Nail Book' is receiving a lot of love in Japan as well. It's currently 1st and 2nd on the Japanese book/magazine pre-order chart as well as the Korean chart, respectively.
The book contains Hongki's personal nail art designs as well as his own stories behind the hobby.
Congrats to Hongki!

If I had the skills or time a book on fandom would be interesting, but I'd probably be more excited for a book on steak.

So I'm definitely a Jane-come-lately when it comes to KPop (only been interested in the genre for about a year). Big Bang was my gateway drug, and my first KPop crush was Taeyang (this is just before he switched the mohawk for the braids). For the past month my obsession has been Lee Hongki, because of the We Got Married Global Edition and also because I am finally watching "You're Beautiful" for the first time.

I knew that "Jeremy" was from a group called FT Island, but I assumed he was just the drummer for them (since that's the role he played in ANJELL), so I was really surprised when I recently started listening to FT Island and discovered he's not only the lead singer, but he's got a seriously commanding set of pipes. And since most of my musical fandom to date has been in Western rock, I was really impressed that he has a legit rock voice, powerful and emotional at the same time. (The whole band really has formidable rock chops.) I haven't really heard anyone else in KPop like that. So it made him more attractive to me, that the guy who played the silly comic relief in ANJELL was actually arguably the best singer of the three.

Anyway, all this to say, can some people shed some light on where Hongki/FT Island currently stand in KPop popularity? I get the sense that they peaked several years ago (maybe right before CN Blue's debut?). When the casting for GWGM first came out it seemed from comments that most people were more looking forward to Taecgui, and I was expecting for Hongki to be kind of a fail because I read a lot of comments to the effect of "Fujii Mina is way too good for him."

Also when that 30 Kpop visuals post came out a couple weeks ago, people seemed really surprised that Hongki was considered the visual for FT Island? I agree that his bandmate Jonghoon has got that whole HOT MAN thing going for him, but even with Jeremy's ridiculous haircut I found Hongki really cute. To me he looks a lot like Park Jungmin from SS501, with their "pretty puppy dog eyes" (for lack of a better descriptor). I even kind of like how terrible he looks in many of his GWGM confessionals -- to me that's very rock star as well, hah.

Sorry for the lengthy comment -- can you tell I've had a lot of Hongki thoughts lately and no one to share them with??

i think Hongki is considerably popular according to kpop standard
you'll see his name in most popularity poll or surveys
hongki is the face of ft island, so i guess that's why he's considered as the visual as well
ft island might not be as popular as back then, but hongki's pretty much stay the same

Hongki has always been the visual / face for FTIsland. He was a child actor and more known to the public. Since their debut he's also the most visible one (doing variety & dramas).

The were really huge when they came out and were the first 'idol band.' But it seems that their company was really shit at capitalizing on that? I'm not sure how their last promotions went they did well but not amazing?

Did you see this post? http://omonatheydidnt.livejournal.com/11004715.html

It's good to find a new fan of FT Island here! ^^ Welcome to the fandom~

Yes, Hongki without a doubt the best singer in A.N.JELL. I remember when the drama was aired, me & my sister have this conversation how its irony that the best singer in the group has the position that do not required him to sing at all. But for the OST songs, the initial version that come out is his solo version of two of the songs in the drama so non-fans will somehow know he is the real singer from the casts.

Unfortunately yeah, they peaked a few years ago during their debut year. They had one of the best debut ever (better than SHINee tbh) -- they're the first idol band that come out and they made rock ballade popular at Korea at that time. They won their first music show awards with their debut song 'Lovesick' and managed to get both #1 & #2 position in the chart which is full with veteran and popular musicians/singers -- you get the idea how popular they are at that time. They achieved so much at such a young age and they won lots lots of awards that year. But bad decisions and their company favouritism towards CN Blue makes their popularity wanes but they still managed to win at music shows since their songs maintain its quality and let's face it, Hongki has one of the best voices out of all K-pop. :)

And please dont believe anything you read on Omona. Ppl here generally hate Hongki due to one misunderstanding on one variety show. And once you on Omona's shit list, its hard to get out of it although its only a mistranslation from the news. In term of popularity, Hongki is way way more popular than Mina but Hongki has this bad boy vibe on him and the fact that feminism is very strong in this community thus you read a lot comments about 'how Mina is way too good for him'. Both are extremely adorable together so I dont see the necessity of those comments tbh -- esp when we dont know them personally.

Hongki is the face of FT Island that's why he is consider a visual. But technically speaking, Jonghoon or Jaejin are more handsome than him. But Kpop groups have weird way of selecting their visuals. Like for CNB, technically Jonghyun is more handsome but Yonghwa is the visual. Or in SHINee, I honestly think Key is way more handsome than Minho (esp during their debut) but Minho is the visual of the group.

But Hongki in GWGM has been looking really tired and exhausted -- I like him but his look as per this moment is one of the worst in the history of his career. He used to have bizarre hairstyles but still managed to look cute but right now, he just doesn't seemed to care at all about his image. Hope this is only a phase that will pass on..

+1000
Sometimes the male dislike here is exaggerated. And it seems like if you're a woman and not a hardcore feminist you "hate yourself" or "are okay with the patriarcal society". Just...no, but I don't think it's fair to hate an entire colectivity just because what others have done in the past. I know that women have been opressed for centuries, but the men living on this century aren't responsible of that and not all of them are "sexist pigs". In fact, most of guys I know are pretty nice.

Most people think you'd ruin your nails if you do a lot of housework but its really not the case. heck, I sometimes even forgo using top coat (the "sealant") and my nailart lasts for a while even though I use my hands a lot. of course it would last more with better quality polish/top coat etc but I get lazy ^_^"

You'll have some trouble if you extend your nails/have long nails/use 3D art (one time I had the stylized "2" in B2ST on one nail in little beads. And then I made meatballs for dinner and my family ate it all. And then I noticed one bead was missing. oops XD) but for the most part it really doesn't affect your life so much. Except when they're drying and you have to pee OMG NIGHTMARE but otherwise its all good.

I guess I'm not a huge fan since I didn't know he was *this* into nail art but I think I'll have to get a copy of this. My nails keep breaking but I'd love to get some nail art going on.
