I almost scrolled past this one until I saw that it was BSB! They're so adorable and I'm actually shocked that their English isn't so....well bad. Can I just say, the first singer is kind of cute? What are their names?
The first singer shown in the video would be the youngest Yun. LUNAFLY is Korean English Sam Carter, Shin Teo and Han Yun. Sam is the reason why they're so good at English. They also release English versions of all their songs. Sam says he writes the English versions first and then translates them into Korean.
Sam even has an Arirang Radio show, Super Kpop (4-6PM KST)! Every Monday for the second half of the show theer is a Lunafly Shoot corner. I swear I die listening to it because of Teo's wacky sugar-high personality and English. I love Friday's Talk, Talk, Talk corner with Punita. She and Sam give advice for listners' problem and have great chemistry together! Part of me ships them and thinks she should be a co-host. http://www.arirang.co.kr/Radio/Radio_DMB_Intro.asp?PROG_CODE=RADR0155&MENU_CODE=101731&code=Be2
i'm sure that sam has aided them in their english learning, but credit has to be given where it's due: sam isn't the ~only~ reason why teo and yun are so good at english
sam has said before that when he met them, he was shocked at how good their english was already and that he rarely has to correct them on it because they've listened to a lot of music in english from the time they were young and they picked up much of what they know of the language from that
plus (and i've discussed this with a friend of mine who teaches ESL mainly to asian language speakers and is also a lunafly fan) teo and yun's english is of too high a level to solely be learned from sam, because they haven't known each other long enough for that to be accurate
Now that you point it out, I realize my phrasing of "Sam is the reason why they're so good at English" wasn't the best. What I meant was that Sam's first language being English helps Lunafly out as a group because I feel Nega Network has decided use that as part of their concept by having them release English versions of all of their songs. Teo and Yun already being good at English is an added plus. I hope that explanation is clear.
I've been listening to Lunafly Shoot a lot lately and can pick up on many of the things you mentioned about Teo and Yun's English. I think Teo speaks his "Tenglish" more to be funny than anything else. lol Boy does it ever crack me up. I'm sure his Korean would crack me up too if I knew the language. He is sort of the hyper class clown type after all. ^__^
yeah i think part of teo speaking english is for comedic effect (i mean, it's getting to the point now where he's able to thoroughly sass sam in english (saying that sam is stupid and that he looks like a monkey, for example) and it's beautiful) but he's just as weird in korean tbh lol
he's actually pretty good at more boring/straight english though, such as explaining abstract concepts... like on today's "lunafly shoot" he had to explain what 팥빙수/patbingsoo is and he got pretty in-depth with the ingredients and how it's made and such; when he wants to get a point across he can usually do so rather clearly
Teo's sass is epic. I mean, he almost made Sam throw up this week when he was talking about his favorite amusement park ride this week on Lunafly Shoot. (I don't fully understand why Sam had that reaction.) Or when they were talking about Teo and Yun in relation to Coming of Age Day and Teo kept saying things that I think freaked Sam out like wanting kisses and the constant talk and showing of his collar bone. lol
The patbingsu talk... Like OMG. Teo couldn't just flat out describe the shaved ice treat oh no. He had to add the sound effect of each ingredient. Oh goodness was that ever funny. I was laughing so hard by that point, my laughter was silent.
Now I feel like making weekly Lunafly Shoot posts. ^__^ There is someone on YouTube who uploads all Simply Kpop shows (same with Kevin, Isak and Arron's Arirang radio shows).
Maybe I should post all of Monday's show since Lunafly Shoot isn't always posted separately. I might be able to find cuts if I search a little more. Actually, I think I found someone who uploads Lunafly Shoot cuts! The whole show is so interesting, especially when Sam fumbles through reading the days phrase in other languages for the Together As One corner, I'm not sure if I should post the cut or whole thing. What do you think? I know sometimes things from the first half of the show relate to the second half.
Lunafly is a part of Nega Network - the sam company as Brown Eyed Girls and LC9. They write all their own music too. Sam tweets quite often about writing songs.
Yun and bebehs~ <3 Teo is so gangly but adorable with his shorter hair. Sam is lovely as always. I love how well-rounded the Lunafly members are and how all their vocals are quite good (Yun's voice especially, guh).
