LOL at the dad who talks too much. But I was really disturbed by everyone's response to the last girl's concern. Thank god at least one person (Hyesung) had some common sense.
awful, just awful. i feel sorry for the girl, way to crush her self-esteem. also, this bullshit about how it's for her health like eating goguma all the time is healthy. smh shinhwa.
I love Shinhwa but I fucking hate this show and wish that neither they nor anyone else I like would appear on it.
The entire point of it is to...compete to see who has the biggest problem/issue??? And rather than getting help they're laughing about serious shit??? And I just hate it all so much omfg. I remember when SHINee was on, and that kid was there because his mom loved her parakeet more than him, and she was like "He can take care of himself, my bird baby needs me!!!" and Onew looked like he was about to cut a bitch.
i've never watched that ep of shinee. link please if you have it?
i only remember another one they were on where the mother was obsessed with wallpapering to the point where she'd started covering the windows and some of the furniture, i think, and she kept guilt-tripping her daughter like, "don't you want me to be happy?"
mte. this show is really troublesome, problematic... I was done with it with that one episode a long time ago where the guy had really terrible depression that caused crazy mood swings and everyone was just like ahaha you're so crazy, tone down the crazy!! instead of maybe finding a way to offer him help.
it's the worst and i think it brings out the worst in its guests too.
to be fair, after watching it all the way through it wasn't as bad as I was expecting. They were blunt in the Korean way I as a Westerner find uncomfortable (in Korea people tell me things only my Mom is allowed to say at home) but it seemed to be more for them an issue of filial piety than concern about her weight. Like, you should obey your mother's wishes, your mother wants you to lose weight, therefore you should lose weight. The daughter's concern is 'my mom only feeds my goguma' and some of them were like ye olde 'there are starving childen in Africa! eating just potatoes is not a concern!' Still hate this show's format in general though.
i remember there was a case about this mom and her baby daughter - the both of them have blue eyes, and her daughter kept getting weird stares from people because her eyes were strange-looking for an asian kid. they won a lot of rounds afterwards and even beat out a contestant whose older brother was verbally and physically abusive towards her. how is the first case worse than the second?! i was so pissed. this show is messed up. pitting one problem against another only serves to trivialize people's issues.
I love this show tbh and even though it's wrong, this show reminds me to be grateful even when I'm having a problem and teaching me to see the funny side of my problem. and I think most people who go there don't go for the win, but for the tips or reaction so the 'problematic' person would learn to change or at least notice the existence of the problem. Another positive side of this show (for me) is to remind me that the 'problematic' person is usually never notice the problem and so I need to be more cautious.
But yeah I don't think the winning story is the most 'problematic' one. I'm honestly alright with the blue eyes winning because it's somehow reminding the audience to be more tolerating and understanding differences.
Even my dad wondered why the blue eyed lady kept winning. It's crazy what we as outsiders consider to be a big deal and what they consider to be not a serious issue.
I actually like this show..more often than not they try to make the problem-writer make the person with the problem realize their concerns. But yeah, sometimes I just want to slap them some sense.
I just watched this on KBSWorld..and I'm so upset when they don't realize the last girl's problem. Her mother didn't even know which school she attend and just pushing her to lose weight when she's not even that fat to be concerned with her health. ugh. And I love Dongwan, but him saying that he'll.do the same if he had a daughter is a big NO.
Unfortunately the topic of weight loss even when it's not needed is a very Asian thing. I get it all the time (and I'm not even over weight!) from family and family friends who should look in the mirror themselves before pointing fingers. I've just become immune to it now.
seem's the mom's concerns were not relaly a concern but a promotion of her poor self-control. Do they really solve anything on this show, or is it just a show-and-tell?
The show has its moments (a girl was upset that her brother and her just stopped talking and she was afraid they'd drift apart when he leaves for the army and the ending was heartwarming/the blue eyed lady from one of the comments above also said that strangers are a lot nicer to her and her daughter now since they appeared on the show) but most of the times I'm left wondering why people want to be on this show.
after reading these comments i really don't think i should watch this one.
i was going to watch the shinee and homin ones, but i guess not either. i di, however, watch the one last year with shinhwa, and the show didn't give me good impressions of it (which is why i never got to the shinee and homin ones.) annnnd i don't like the MCs for this show ;\
i kept picturing myself as that one foreign girl who becomes a celebrity in korea and gets on the show and tells the girl's mother off and then gets kicked out of the show prematurely but the only way the audience knows is there's a cut and suddenly i'm no longer sitting there.
GOD GUYS NO DONGWAN IS AWESOME AND PRODUCERS HERE SUCK
what happened was that when the girl presented her problem Dongwan spent a huge chunk of time genuinely trying to solve her issue with a really nice attitude. What went down was "Well, she's not skinny" really meant "she's not fat, but she's not skinny either." Told her mom that going on a diet should be an enjoyable experience one can handle, explained different body types and best suited type of diet for that body type and suggested various eating habits the daughter can go on (hence Jun Jin joking about him being a doctor with notepads and everything), and even offered to get her a book that he really liked on making healthy eating habits and stuff.
All that stuff got cut out, and edited so what was only left was Dongwan saying well she's not very skinny, which sounds like she's fat and needs to lose weight. Shinhwa members said it wasn't an issue at the end because Dongwan resolved it! But the story wouldn't be very exciting without bashing I guess, cut out all the good parts, and made the members look douchy unintentionally (or intentionally, who knows). They mix and jumble scenes all the time, just look at Strong Hearts and the mixed reaction shots they insert to make the show flow.
I don't like Hello Counselor for all the side-eyeing moments and the shit job of editing, but shinhwa members shouldn't be blamed for anything, especially Dongwan. He'd be so much more sensitive than this.
As if subjecting your daughter to ONE food for three years is healthy at all. I wanted to slap the mother so badly. She doesn't give a shit about her daughter at all.
I've never seen this show before and I will not watch it again. The trivialization of people's problems is disgusting tbh.
Bless Hyesung for remaining flawless I am so pissed at oppajusshi's for screwing that last girl over the mum didn't even know what school she was going to ffs ><
This show in general seems to be a load of shit though side eyeing the fuck out of everything and everyone involved with producing this show >>
as much as it makes me angry, i am almost positive this show is heavily edited to skew the perceptions of the participants toward however the producers feel about a particular topic.
