I hate what LJ has become. And I definitely hate the "new" Frank. Old Frank was at least cute.

I'm only on my journal, fanfic coms and Omona. Have things gotten really bad from where LJ used to be? I agree about Frank. I wish there weren't so many errors when they update the site.

I've been here since '02 or so, and yes. The previous owners were far more receptive to user needs than the people who own it now, who are on record for scoffing at user pleas to fix or not change certain features without any sort of notice or discussion period. It's not that there wasn't ever downtime, but that it seemed like the dev team was way more open, honest and communicative. Brad (the old head guy) would post about the philosophical challenges of governing LJ as it grew and he was someone that you could actually reach out to and email or talk to on his active journal. He and the other devs wrote frequently through the news channel and they had their own personalities. It was a lot like Dreamwidth is now. Now, even if I knew that current LJ devs had active journals themselves, I seriously doubt they'd listen or spend any time talking to me about concerns that I have with the site. There's also the language difference. I feel like LJ devs particularly don't care about English-speaking users and that it has become a Russian site with a massive amount of non-Russian legacy users instead. I used to be really sympathetic when LJ went down because I felt like I knew all the devs and was exposed to enough in the news updates that I knew each of them was struggling with some component of the system, trying to make it work best of all of us. The old devs were very particular about making sure paid users were compensated for down time. Now? We get jacked by hackers running DDOS attacks regularly and they don't offer the thinnest slip of a status update, much less an explanation or compensation. That's the reason why I stopped maintaining a paid account. Spam and bot accounts are also out of control at a level that I've never seen before. If it weren't for the fact that it seems like I get most of my social interaction here, I'd quit LJ entirely and shake the dust off my shoes as I left.

Oh really? Wow. I didn't know that. I read that paid user will get an extra week because of the downtime that happened this week. I don't get too mush spam. I don't even follow when something happens to LJ usually, so they way things are don't really bother me. Though I can see your side of things. Speaking of Russians, the comments of the post that explained what happened recently was SO full of comments from Russian speaking people. I just wanted to see what English speaking users were saying, but it was hard to do.

Just by way of clarification, when I refer to spam I'm talking about bots joining comms and then posting Russian ads for porn, or making comments to comments with an offer for some kind of financial instrument, or something. It isn't constant, but there will be periods of time where it seems like three or four different comms I follow will get attacked at once and then the have to be found to delete the posts, or people have to report the comments and users.

Hey OMONA peeps, i finally got some GOOD news!

After a rather shitty two years where I spent 9 months in hospital learning how to walk again and various other horrible things, in those 2 years I had to defer my B.A and it was all a bit hit and miss whether my University would allow me to finish my B.A because you know I was absent for so long.

BUT BUT I got word yesterday that my Uni has approved my study plan for next semester and for next year and they will allow me to graduate providing of course I pass all subjects.

WooHOOO.

I have been doing this B.A for what feels like forever and I really thought I'd have just throw away the previous three years work because of my illness, but Monash is being super cool to me.
