Kyuhyun to replace labelmate Minho as the MC of ‘Mamma Mia’

It’s been reported that Super Junior‘s Kyuhyun will replace labelmate SHINee‘s Minho as the new MC of KBS 2TV‘s ‘Mamma Mia‘.

According to a few broadcast representatives, Kyuhyun is said to have already completed his first recording for the show on the 9th. Minho, who was one of the original MCs, will be stepping down from his position with his final appearance on the May 12th broadcast.

‘Mamma Mia’ gathers celebrities and their mothers who share behind-the-scenes stories on their childhood, and is led by three MCs. With Minho’s leave, Kyuhyun will make up the trio with Park Mi Sun and Lee Young Ja as the replacement MC.

Jo Hyun Ah PD explained that Minho’s departure is due to his conflicting schedule, revealing, “Since the beginning, Minho was only supposed to film for one month due to SHINee’s Japan tour. Minho’s portion will be aired until this week’s episode”

The PD also revealed why Kyuhyun was selected sharing, “Because of his hosting on MBC‘s ‘Radio Star‘, we believed he is a more experienced MC compared to other idols. Upon seeing his good teamwork with MCs Yoon Jong Shin, Kim Guk Jin, Yoo Se Yoon, and more, we feel that he will work well with Lee Young Ja and Park Mi Sun as well.”

personally, i really do appreciate the fact that kyuhyun is getting more recognition nowadays, its a good way to introduce him to the public. he can start off as a tv personality, and then maybe move on with a solo?

Anyways, yes I'm trying to think positive. I just really hope he/SM don't become complaisant with his relative success in variety and get too side-tracked from what he should be doing. I really wanted a KRY album but as things stand now I've come to hope for a Kyuhyun solo release.

We've been getting lots of positive comments on SJ lately from Siwon's looks and now to Kyuhyun's MCing skills. Lovely week :3

Although I'm happy for him, I agree with the comments here that he should get the recognition as a singer, not just as an MC. Eeteuk gets a lot of side-eye for his frank comments on Radio Star about how he wished Kyuhyun would focus on singing and not too much on variety, but he does have a point. If your group's sole vocal talent becomes appreciated only for their MCing skills then that could be a problem and such a waste of his talent. Kyu's Radio star gig also had negative impact on his Catch Me If You Can perfs when they were shuttling in between Korea and China for SJM promos.

I am hopeful for Kyu though! I mean all Yesung needed was a great OST gig like 'It Has To Be You' to be recognized by the Korean public for his singing and not just his strange variety personality.

I don't think the side-eye on Leeteuk's comment was all that much about the content but the context. He was kinda pulling the rug out under Kyuhyun's feet in front of his employers and co-workers, not the mention the audience. He was kinda implying that Kyuhyun's reasons for being there were opportunistic and not all that sincere. That's the impression I got anyway.

That was exactly my point, he was flying in between two to three countries for promotional activities, working on his musical, and then also MCing for Radio Star. As a result his performances for Catch Me If You Can was negatively impacted, whereas it could have pumped up his career and portfolio as a singer even more. While I agree with you that Eeteuk was wrong for saying his thoughts as such on Radio Star to Kyuhyun that way, the abovementioned is the direct negative side-effect of MCing to Kyuhyun's growing singing career. :/

With Super Junior slowly moving towards a hiatus and less flying all over the world I hope Kyuhyun can juggle MCing and singing a bit more without sacrificing his singing wherein he is infinitely more deserving to be known for.

Not trying to burst your bubble but Siwon and Kyuhyun are indeed the least hated members in SJ among netizens, so positive comments on them are just..well, let's say, expected or natural.
But the other SJ members aren't really ;;; Either people just don't care of them or people care because they despise them so much ;;;

Definitely agree with yukahoo...any positive commentary on SJ is a treat, never mind if it's just for members who are generally liked by the Korean public. :) Although it's a pleasant surprise here in Omona too because Siwon's usually on Omona's shitlist, haha.

It's probably why they didn't include him in the performer list for Three Musketeers in Japan (well, good thing they didn't, regardless he would be in this show or not).
