The day Super Junior fans Omona members have dreaded has finally arrived.

May 6 marks the day when Yesung will start his military service. He previously mentioned through his agency that he wants to quietly leave for duty, but his fans still decided to go all the way to Jeolla Province to take a glimpse of their beloved celebrity and maybe send him off.





His fans represented many different countries, but all wrote messages in Korean varying from “Yesung, I’ll be here,” “I love you, I’ll wait,” “Oppa, I’ll wait for you.”



Quite a few Japanese fans bought airplane tickets and flew to Korea just for this occasion. The fans vary by age. There’s an ahjumma fan who brought her young child and there were high school students. One high school Japanese fan shared, “I came to Korea today to see Yesung. I’ll love him forever.”



Even though the fans waited for some time, Yesung kept his promise and entered the training base without greeting the fans.





After four weeks of basic military training at the 35th division in Jeolla Province, Yesung will start his service as a public officer.

in spite of the sarcasm here, it makes me proud he did it his way. he didn't whine, he didn't moan about service. he went in quietly like he wanted. reading some of the comments on NB (and some here) it wouldn't matter how he went in- it would be damned if he did and damned if he didn't. although he didn't come out to the crowd or the press, i'm sure his heart was filled with pride to know his fans did come out to say goodbye. YeMom and YeDad did greet the fans afterwards.

personally, contrary to popular opinion among friends i don't see why fans make such a big deal about enlisting. sure it is two years off of the screen and stages, but it isn't like one won't see the occasional pictures of the celebs. even when Kangin went in for active duty, Korea's Military PR people used his status to promote the military through songs and photo ops. i recall a few Shinhwa guys being used for a military variety show while they were enlisted.

maybe i'll think differently when Donghae goes, but seriously...i know the military will be good for him.

Great comment. I'm proud he stuck to his guns and didn't make a big deal out of things. While he's not my bias, I respect him greatly for this.

I agree. We saw a lot of Kangin, so it wasn't too bad. Honestly, I think the military service is good for some members. It really matured Kangin, and he's become so lovely.

Ugh, don't want to think about Donghae leaving, but I agree it will be very good for him.

blackface aside i've always liked how yesung's handled himself, he seems one of the less...attention-whore-y of the older members. he didn't whine about his chronic injury (although now i guess people think he made it up because idt it was a public thing), didn't want a fuss about his enlistment, iirc he's never made any statement about wanting to be a public duty officer to ~prove his manhood and loyalty to korea~ like plasteuk did, etc. i actually don't even see it as a problem if he does musicals in the army because he's one of the few suju members where singing is actually his job, so it isn't as galling as say, plasteuk doing a musical.

unfortunately, because of plasteuk and heechul (whom i can understand why he isn't doing public service, but maybe getting photographed going out to bars and hanging out with friends after a super long taxing day sitting in a chair doing radio isn't the best thing to do), every suju member going to the army next is going to be watched like a hawk, which is going to be terrible for ryeowook because i'm pretty sure he can't even run in a straight line, lol.

Even though he's my ultimate bias, I was so surprised at myself that I didn't cry when he entered the military (because I'm such a cry baby lol). I think it's because I think the years will go quickly and we'll probably see pictures of him around anyway just like Heechul, Leeteuk and Kangin. Leeteuk even had a fan signing today lol for children I think

Forever bitter I didn't get to hear him sing Gray Paper live. ;A; I will miss his voice being a part of future Super Junior releases for the two years he can't join them in recordings and promotions, but I'm glad Ryeowook is doing a brilliant job filling in his epic high note for It's You.
