A dog named Baekgu has become Korea's first honorary 119 rescue dog after playing a critical role in the search for a missing elderly woman.

According to the South Chungcheong Provincial Government and emergency officials, the dog was given the title Monday for helping rescue workers find its owner, a 93-year-old dementia patient who fell unconscious in a field, 2 kilometers from her home, Aug. 25.

The woman's daughter, surnamed Shim, filed a missing person report to police after being unable to contact her mother for hours. They checked CCTV footage and saw Kim leave the village at dawn. But despite search efforts with volunteers, they could not find her for nearly two days.

Actor Park Eun-seok, a star in popular TV series "The Penthouse: War in Life," has apologized after being criticized for abandoning his pet dog.

"It is my fault that I failed to take charge of a living animal for its whole life ― I admit I am wrong and have been reflecting upon my action," Park, 36, wrote on Instagram Wednesday. "I don't want to make any excuses. I am the one who has to change so other people may realize the seriousness of the issue."

The statement comes after he denied allegations that he had abandoned the dog as well as other furry companions.

Korea-born baby panda Fubao welcomes visitors from Monday Jan. 4.

Samsung Everland, the operator of Everland ― an amusement park, zoo and waterpark ― said visitors can see Fu Bao at the zoo between 10:20 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. from Jan. 4 through 17.

The baby panda born on July 20, 2020, to seven-year-old mother Ai Bao and eight-year-old father Le Bao, has been receiving care since its birth due to health concerns. It is the first time Fu Bao has been outside for visitors to see.

Local broadcaster MBC announced Thursday the name of 11 K-pop stars who will participate in a dog agility competition.

The lineup of the "2020 Idol Woof Woof Championship" includes MAMAMOO's Moonbyul, GOT7's Youngjae, Golden Child's Jaehyun and Bomin, (G)I-DLE's Shuhua, Lovelyz's Jisoo, Cosmic Girls' (WJSN) Soobin, Loona's HeeJin and Choerry, Kim Woo-seok and former Wonder Girls member Yubin.

It is the first time a Korean entertainment program has featured a dog agility competition, in which a handler directs the animal through an obstacle course without touching or offering the dog incentives like food.

"For two months of training, the stars and their dogs interacted closely and made good memories," MBS said. "Some dogs showed potential to become dog-agility professionals."

The show will air in fall, but the exact date has not been set.
