Kang Yu-i appears in newspaper as frequently as any politician or celebrity. The 28-year-old model is seen in the papers three to four times a week, gracefully posing with new products. She is in demand whenever something new comes out, promoting anything from home appliances to beverages and games. Kang gets about five days off per month and has an average of three photo shoots a day.
A popular racing model, she has more than 4,700 fans registered in her fan club. She is the tallest among the active racing models at 178 cm. Her modeling career was launched after she won an award in a racing model contest in 2007. She says electronics firms favor her because she looks intelligent and sophisticated.
"I realize the degree of media exposure when I get calls from people I had lost contact with for a long time, and when people around me are pleasantly surprised," she says. Kang is one of the highest-paid models in the industry, but she says despite the fact that her job may seem glamorous, she is a temporary worker on an unstable contract and has to worry about retirement in her early 30s. She enjoys her work and tries to save as much money as possible at the moment.
"I love the confidence that models exude, posing confidently and smiling in front of cameras. My height can be an advantage that makes me stand out among many others," she says.
