episode 5 felt like a mostly filler with some ~heartfluttering moments~, ep 6 was much better. although the acting is overall good acting in this drama, directing/writing is sometimes a bit clumsy i feel. the drama can move from romcom to politics/serious storylines quite suddenly and the contrast feels a bit too big for me at times. i do think it's fun how the power relations between the two leads are inverted, the end of episode 6 showed that a lot with lee hwi coming to save damsel in distress jiun.
at least in episode 5 was revealed that hyun (also lee hwi's cousin??? ok i know this is joseon era but still) knows about the prince's true identity! i feel like hyun is sort of blinded by his love for lee hwi? i think that we might see him lose his morals to try and get with lee hwi/dami in the end, we kind of already saw that he is willing to kill to protect her.
also i am sure that the drama will end with lee hwi/dami and jiun living in that abandoned/'cursed' house that jiun was cleaning up
also, that annoying uncle that tried to drug lee hwi when they were getting ready to take a bath (very jealous of that bath situation) had some very shiny veneers
not really sure what the backstory of the bodyguard is yet!

thank you 💕 i felt i needed to rep his shorter hair until he grows it out again lol

this is so true, the balance doesnt really feel right, but i appreciate the light moments so i don't hate it personally lol.
and agreed about hyun's character probably going south at some point as i feel thats usually how love triangles are resolved in sageuks, he's sweet now, and the threatening to kill isn't really a big deal considering the times they're in, but i feel he'll do something he shouldnt or that she wouldnt want at some point rather than just hwi friendzoning (cousinzoning? lmao) him

i was hoping that we would keep the friendship between jiun and hyun, because they do really care for each other :( but i really think (and i guess do appreciate that they actor is already showing this) that hyun has a little bit of an obsessive streak with hwi: not only when her life was threatened, but at the end of ep 5 where he discovered that hwi and jiun knew each other he showed some weird annoyance as though he saw jiun as competition
personally i think cousinzoning is very healthy lol!

yeah like babycheeses1 says above, i think you're right re: the bodyguard! good point to not completely rule out real lee hwi coming back suddenly, although it would be kind of disappointing, also because i would've loved to see park eunbin pull off that double role like the actor playing young dami/lee hwi did

I like that Hyun knows and has known the truth for so long. I guess I'm okay with the relative romance undertone considering Ji-un was like, "Is she a distant relative?" I don't know if I like the best friends liking the same girl trope, but I guess it's fine. I like that she has an ally and that Hyun really does truly care about her well-being.
I really love that in the short time they had together as children, Dam-yi completely changed Ji-in’s outlook on life and help shaped the man he became. You could tell she didn't expect that he would remember a conversation from years ago and made it almost his life's purpose. Eunbin's eye acting in that scene was so good. Just really like that it wasn't like one meeting and he was just infatuated by her face. And when he cleaned "their" area! My heart.
I'm curious about what she's going to do about her grandfather. It looks like, and I love, that she's continuing to go against him. He's an ass, so I'm all for it.
Choi Myungbin and Ko Woorim remain cute and I will take any and all flashbacks with them forever.
I'm really impressed with Rowoon. His acting in the trailer was really what drew my attention to this drama and also led me into the Rowoon acting rabbit hole. I'm so delighted by how funny his character is and how well he's doing in the role.

lol it's fine! if you ever cant hold it in feel free! i tried to get this post up asap just incase someone wanted to discuss it but i hadnt even finished ep 6 yet, i was trying to ignore the notifs from you and broadcities so i didnt accidentally spoil myself before finishing it lol.
i agree about all the flashbacks of them as children, i don't like the 'met as kids' trope in general but they've shown they spent a pretty significant amount of time together as kids and had pretty meaningful conversations with each other so because it's been well developed i'm enjoying it rather than disliking it like i normally would. its a nice reversal of hwi/dami teaching ji un to be more warm hearted as kids and him now being that role for her as adults.
and also led me into the Rowoon acting rabbit hole
have you seen his other ones yet? but ia hes doing really well so far in this i think! (but i might be incapable of rational thought with rowoon)

I think it's mostly because no one I know is watching it and I'm sure my friends are tired of my KKT messages of, "He's so cute?!" which I don't blame them for since they had to deal with me discovering Eunwoo earlier in the year lol.
they spent a pretty significant amount of time together as kids
They went on a date! Very progressive for that time, I feel lol
Also, I keep laughing at the fact that she hasn't called him out on his tone being way too familiar when they bicker... or at least it feels that way. Also, he's so pouty?! And when she manhandles him, it's the funniest thing. The way he flies!
Also, did you catch what was the change with the gat that she returns to him? I felt like the translation was weird. I love how her lady's maid was like oooooookay.
have you seen his other ones yet?
I have! I liked She Would Never Know. I thought he did really well. Although if the guy wasn't him, I'd be concerned because it got semi stalkerish at certain points. I also watched Extra-ordinary You, which I thought was cute, but I have to rewatch because it was more on the background, so I missed a lot. But he looked so good in the historical parts; super dreamy.

- the interaction between hwi, ji un and hyun at the start of the episode was cute i hope we get more of that i know sageuks are misery fests but i want some lightheatedness!
- her giving hyun back the ring was a little sad like how am i already feeling bad for the second lead! and we still have so long to go
- also not at all the point to that scene but the cat was so cute
- the football scene was cute (rowoon with kids im weak)
- enjoyed the amount of bickering and random staring at eachother between our leads this ep
- not ji un causing absolute chaos in the palace after one wrong sentence
- weird aphrodisiac plot??? her uncle is so annoying, the audacity to be like you're still mad that i tried to shoot you with an arrow???
- omg hyun beating up the uncle and him threatening him with that dimpled smile <333 i felt something lol
- okay we know ji un could have caught that pot falling easier than swinging her out of the way into a hug but i know we need are swooning cliffhanger moment
- why is ji un going around sticking out his barely injured finger
- hwi and ji un are not subtle staring at each other all the time with other people around
- okay so hyun knows the prince is a girl but i guess he never knew damis name? so doesnt know ji un is talking about the same person as him when theyre talking about who they like?
- not hwi telling ji un she herself died and then fishing to find out what he thought of her thats kinda cruel lmao
- hyun is so cute :(
- we love to see park eun bin hit men with sticks <3
- the flashback scene with kid hwi and ji un was so cute but its so frustrating to watch how warm hearted she is a child and now so emotionally repressed
- omg hes threatening to kill himself that got intense very quickly!
- i know hwi was going to show up to save the day but the way ji uns dad infuriates me when hes on screen
- yes girl threaten to chop ji uns dad's head off <3 if only she could go through with it but i know we need his character for drama for at least another 10 eps
- hwi turning up as ji uns knight in shining armour i love it
i enjoyed these eps! episode 5 more than 6 purely because i was not in the mood for angst this week lol but its good to see some more complex plot points starting to happen and rowoon did well in episode 6 especially. preparing myself for next week with hwi crying in the preview, i feel like this drama is going to frustrate me with basically everytime hwi opens up her heart a little to do the right thing shes going to be immediately punished for it in some way :(

Also I do hope Hwi fights her uncle and her annoying grandpa. It’s gonna be an uphill battle but I am here for it.
I kinda want to know what ended up happening with the cat Hyun was bringing to see Hwi.
Also it is sad seeing how nice Dami was and how she’s had to grow and change to survive. It’s extra nice seeing her try to resurrect some of her old heart. As a kid she helped Jiun find his heart and as adults he’s helping her, and that’s really cool.
Stone-faced bodyguard-possibly-assassin continues to intrigue me.
