It’s Friday! Every week I check the charts for this day in the past and post the top three songs. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week, we are going back to the 5th week in April, 2016. A few of the songs have been posted before, so we will see some comeback stages.
#3 Block B “Toy”
I’ve always really liked this song. Probably the song I like the most from them. Maybe it’s the way the boys are telling me that I could use them and dispose of them at my convenience. Or I really just like that chorus idk. Anyway. This was the single from their “Blooming Period” EP, which would debut at the top spot. The song would peak at #2.
#2 Jung Eun Ji “Hopefully Sky”
Such a pretty song! So perfect for the spring. This is her official solo debut, the lead single from her “Dream” EP. It was a success, with the song hitting #1 on the charts. The EP would peak in the top three, and she would also collect a few music show trophies. Here’s her comeback/solo debut stage at Music Core.
#1 Twice “Cheer Up”
The group’s follow up to their debut, and their big breakout hit. This was their first song to hit #1, would go on to be the best performing song of 2016, and win SOTY at a few year end shows. They would also win their very first music show trophy with this song, exactly one year after the first episode of “Sixteen” premiered. Let’s watch their Music Core comeback performance. Ah that “shy shy shy” thumbnail! That was EVERYWHERE back then.
Honorable Mentions
#6 Lovelyz “Destiny”
This was the single from their “A New Trilogy” EP. It would be their first single to break into the top ten. I don’t remember this era at all. I know I’ve heard the song before, but I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen the music video before. Those blush outfits are so pretty! It’s been so long since I’ve worn a skirt. I want to twirl around in a skirt now lol.
#7 Lee Hi “My Star”
She’s cute! He’s cute! Oh so cute! Everything is just so lovely and sweet. And jazzy and retro and I love all her outfits in this MV so much. This was the last single from her “Seoulite” album, her first comeback after a 3 year hiatus. The music video features her former labelmate, rapper One, and her first on-screen kiss.
