I’ve been digesting all of this and thinking how these past few comebacks had debut performances overseas and like ngl, I missed when they focused more promotions in Korea at the start of a comeback. Like I was guaranteed to watch at least one music show performance, but I can’t guarantee to watch an American show even my favorite group is on. Idk, there’s always an anxiety that they’ll be treated with a racist response, and tbh America for all its great qualities really doesn’t deserve this attention.

I'm so happy for them but also worried about the live performance. I hope their new song is easier to sing for them, I skipped all fake love promotions because I couldn't deal with all the screeching
but also tame impala is releasing new stuff soon!! I don't know who I am more excited for haha

This comment reminded me that he's the same age as Yoongi. Jin is actually older than him! It's mean to go after people's looks I know but HOW

"They may be BTS but I am BDE ah hyuk ah hyuk"

Agreed. Not only is it annoying but they still don't seem to realise that while their existing fans will make sure they keep breaking their own records (and in that sense they don't even have to make an effort anymore) there is kind of nowhere else to go in America with their current strategy because aside from their tracks they're not bringing anything new to the table every time they go there. The guys still can't speak English well enough to hold a real conversation and are still not allowed to go outside of scripted K-pop style activities so they have no room for growth as a standalone act separate from their fanbase until they switch it up. I get that it makes them look good in Korea but I'm wondering what exactly they're expecting from this.

Even in their controlled environment they have loads of charming and cute members and can be really funny but I don't think the general American public really sees any of that, just Namjoon getting increasingly stressed out. If they had a Fire/Dope style track to promote it would help a lot but not getting my hopes up.

If only they could do a skit referencing that. Jimin's vocals might have gone down the drain but he sure as hell would be able to pull off a killer hoedown dance.

When I found out I was older than him I was actually shook. I’m sure if he...like...took care of himself? He would look decent? Possibly?

The bar has never been lower for a man's ability to take care of himself so I'm sure it would make a huge difference. We'll probably never live to see it but it's nice to dream of the possibilities.

Fake Love was a double fail because not only did the song not resonate with the general public but it made them look like terrible singers as well. The styling was mostly awful. Newbies watching those stages would be so confused. As you say IDOL could've been great but then it wasn't (if only they kept with the trad Korean arrangement!). Genuine humor and fun and a good hook that makes you want to dance is universal and they used to be great at this so the style switch-up is such a loss.

It's not harsh at all because it's true. I know people react badly to anyone saying it but I put this almost entirely on Big Hit, not on BTS - I think if it was up to them things would've been done much differently. We're just starting to see how incredibly controlled they are and maybe not all that much different from other idol groups in their so-called creative freedom. I feel like the group are more aware of their extreme dependency on the fanbase than the company is even.

i mean i agree that he definitely sings out of his best range and bighit should def be the ones providing a vocal coach but if hes as self conscious as he says he can afford to get one on his own too. plus if he still drinks a lot that'll fuck him up, and maybe he's been smoking too with all that drinking (i used to love a good drunk cig). i used to like him more but with this + his messiness i can't cape for his ass anymore

It's pretty big, but with Emma Stone? Wasn't there a whitewashing story with her or something?
Anyway, I hope the live performance will be good (Jimin, V, Jin... But, yeah, Jimin). I also hope they'll have a sit. Will both of their songs be new?
If not, I hope they'll go for a MAMA Mic Drop style performance.

This whole thread is scarily very similar to what happens to international One Ok Rock fandom. I feel like watching 2 of my main fandoms having the same rants and it's stressing me out.
