headdresses are usually reserved exclusively for the Aboriginal/Indigenous tribe's chosen political & spiritual leaders. it's an act of honor, and should be cherished as such.
Maybe I'm reading too much into it but with the headpiece and how she's doing finger guns, it's giving me cowboy vs native american (the game kids play)
I think it might be rooted in the popularization of Western genre films since early Hollywood times, these present a whitewashed version of history and Indigenous people as caricatures that can be imitated. There is still very low media visibility for Indigenous people due to continued oppression and a lot of Indigenous roles in TV/film are still played by white people, so I think some people in North America and internationally either think it's a 'dead' culture or that it's appropriate for non-Indigenous people to commercialize it because it's normalized in the media.
I hope this doesn't become a trend or something I saw the guy from nu'est wearing one yesterday at a fansign too :/ I'm glad some fans are calling her out though
