I think it's just a parody of the mainstream singing competition type thing. At least that's what I gleaned from watching it. I think it's just something they do around Chuseok. They've done the Miss Korea competitions and last year was a battle between the Return of Superman and 2 days 1 night and Star Golden Bell came back, too.
