Yassss, Yong Pal, come rescue me during 2015's K-dramaland slump.
I don't know why you're going so hard for this but I'll gladly respond
Yongpal knows all that so for him to say she was guilty for that while also calling the asshole a criminal is still wrong and CLEARLY indicative of rape culture. "Yeah he shouldn't have raped you but you shouldn't have been drunk or there in the first place" is EXACTLY what he said. It was clearly victim blaming 101.
What SHOULD have been said was, "You seem to be experiencing post traumatic stress from the event and feel guilt that leaves you wanting to die but it is not your fault and you should not blame yourself."
The rest of the narrative was supportive of her and other victims of the system but that line was still fucked up and all about rape culture.

It's extra sad too because victim blaming should be something addressed publicly, especially in a country like Korea - it's not okay under any circumstance for a person to beat down another person like that. Unfortunately, that entire message was undermined by a single remark. Damnit show we were so close.

The blame lies on the rapist and no one else
Re: I don't know why you're going so hard for this but I'll gladly respond
ia that he should've said she shouldn't blame herself, but i don't think what we're supposed to take away from that scene is that she is to blame as well.
no one is disputing holding the rapist fully responsible.

"involving yourself with the wrong person for the wrong reasons may be a mistake, but consequences for any mistake should never be rape, assault or any form of violation of your humanity -- that's 100% on the perpetrator. no matter how guilty or angry you feel, sacrificing these lives is wrong, too."
but i'm glad we had this discussion even if we don't see eye to eye :)
