Yassss, Yong Pal, come rescue me during 2015's K-dramaland slump.

I don't know why you're going so hard for this but I'll gladly respond

He did say something akin to "Your skirt was too short" because he said she was at fault for walking into that hotel room and trying to become a celebrity by association when in fact when she tried to leave, while drunk, she was slapped, stabbed, and sexually assaulted.

Yongpal knows all that so for him to say she was guilty for that while also calling the asshole a criminal is still wrong and CLEARLY indicative of rape culture. "Yeah he shouldn't have raped you but you shouldn't have been drunk or there in the first place" is EXACTLY what he said. It was clearly victim blaming 101.

What SHOULD have been said was, "You seem to be experiencing post traumatic stress from the event and feel guilt that leaves you wanting to die but it is not your fault and you should not blame yourself."

The rest of the narrative was supportive of her and other victims of the system but that line was still fucked up and all about rape culture.

I agree. That speech would've been beautiful save for the last throw in on 'it's your fault too for walking into the same room and you just want to pretend that it's not true.'

It tarnished the whole thing...it was a huge WTF moment because from the very beginning he called it a crime scene, noted that she tried to leave, and pointed out she was traumatized by the event

Yeah, it was like 'Oh, he's handling the situation well. Oh we're almost in the clear! Oh- oh, oh, oh nope. Nevermind'.

It's extra sad too because victim blaming should be something addressed publicly, especially in a country like Korea - it's not okay under any circumstance for a person to beat down another person like that. Unfortunately, that entire message was undermined by a single remark. Damnit show we were so close.

I don't know if you're being deliberately naive or not...rarely would someone directly say stop being drunk or slutty...they point out the person's actions leading up to the event as a way to imply that and blame them for what happened. It's still saying the exact same thing.

The blame lies on the rapist and no one else

He literally said you are wrong too for walking in that room and now you feel guilty...so I don't know how you are seeing it any other way. We'll have to agree to disagree

+100000 that line was so horrible & terrifying. like ppl pretend rape culture/victim blaming isn't real but then shit like this happens & the fact that line was ok'd by the producers/writers/actors/director like nothing was wrong with it is frightening.

Late but I'm just catching up on this drama and that line blaming the rape victim was a huge WTF for me. Before that I was so impressed that they were clearly showing the celebrity guy as the rapist and responsible for his own behavior. They ruined what could have been a good story line.
