so-ji-sub

So Ji Sub recently completed a successful tour of six Asian countries, greeting thousands of fans at each stop. He also spoke with the media at several locations during the "So Ji Sub 1st Asia Tour." One of the questions that interviewers were eager to ask him was how he felt about marriage.

When interviewed by Chinese media, the actor, rapper and successful entrepreneur said that it's a question he is often asked. And it may be that it comes up more often these days, as he gets closer to his ideal age for getting married. He's 37 and his target date is only three years away.

"To be honest, I wanted to get married before I hit 40, but since I don't have much time left, I think it'll be difficult," he said. "I personally believe that once you start seeing someone, you have to see them for at least a year before getting married. I think it'll be hard for me to get married before 40."

The star of "The Master's Sun" and "Phantom" did describe his ideal partner, so anyone interested could take note and see if they fit the profile.

He's looking for someone who is considerate and understands his work. That's more difficult than it sounds.

"In the beginning they all seem to think they can understand my profession, but I think most people find it difficult," he said. "Even when I want to see them, I often can't go see them because of work."

One person he should rule out marrying is anyone related to his best friend Song Seung Hoon. Newsen once asked Song Seung Hoon if he would marry So Ji Sub, that is, if he were a woman. Song Seung Hoon said no.

"He's very stiff, stubborn and boring," joked Song Seung Hoon. "If he were to marry my sister she would be too bored."

If that were true they would not have been friends for so many years.

So Ji Sub has in the past said he would date openly if he did find someone he was thinking of marrying. He was rumored to be dating After School's Jooyeon, but he denied that they were a couple and said they were merely friends.

So Ji Sub may not be aware of the fact that there is another singer who would not mind going out on a date with him. Red Velvet member Joy was recently asked which actor most closely resembled her ideal type. She said that she prefers men who have So Ji Sub's personality.
So Ji Sub take note.

I don't get the whole "I have to get married before X age". Just get married when you feel like it, it's not an obligation.

Maybe that's just how they've envisioned how their lives will be? Like get married at this age, kids by a certain age, etc. I mean, it's not like it's set in stone.

I want to get married by 30, but it's not like I'll drown myself in tears if I don't. I just see myself being in a state emotionally and financially ready for marriage at that age. And career-wise.

I dont think he will get married very soon. He probably never. Same with Song Seunghoon. IDK, he has that vibe. Its very different from the vibe I get from the likes of Ji Sung, Jang Hyuk, Jaehee, Chae Taehyun or Bae Soobin. :O

Yeah, I only expect them to get married because eventually Korea's gonna tell them too (because eventually their gf is gonna "forget" her pill). It's more like their future marriage will be just to please their fans/fit their culture instead of them actually believing in "marriage".

HAHAHA forget her pills. IDK, I dont even see that one happen with Ji Sub ahaha. He's like the alone type tbh. XD

BTW, have you seen Song Seunghoon new movie?

I've seen the IMPORTANT parts (the trailer gave away all the best scenes)! I'l probably actually watch it (I have a MAJOR soft spot for him) but Korea tends to go overboard when they decide their making an "erotic" film and I hate how the female lead has been marketed as a no-name arm-candy. It will probably be all SEX, INFIDELITY, SHOCK!!1! instead of actual substance. They have so much possible material with it being a period war film set in another country; the screenwriter/director could make some pretty bold statements but instead will probably just do a bunch of fanservice (which is obvious from their choice of male lead).

As long you're still at a fertile age I don't see what's the problem. I know several couples who had kids in their 40s and you don't need to be married to have kids anyway.

I used to want to get married at 26 and kids at 28 when I was like 18, but then I hit that age and I was like "nah". It's not because a career or financial problem, just that it's a life style I find boring at least by the moment. I enjoy my freedom too much but well, I'm not even 30 yet, maybe I'll change my mind in a couple years.

You don't need to be married to have kids, but many people would like to.

I'm not talking about fertility, I'm talking about watching them grow. If you have them at 40, but the time your eldest is ready for college you're starting to get ready to retire.

Personally I want to live my life, but I also want to be with my kids as long as I can, and hopefully grandkids. I'm sure there are others with a similar sentiment.

What do you mean you seen the IMPORTANT parts? Are you doing the same thing like you did with When A Man Loves? -- fast forwarding the drama and only stopped during shirtless/hot scenes? lol XD~~

I dont know what was on Song Seunghoon's mind when he accepts the role for the movie. I will be super disappointed if I were his fan since I exactly know the route that its going to take when I read the synopsis. >.> He always seemed to take shitty project for the past years. I think the last good project that he took is East of Eden and that was 6 years ago. :O

Ready to retire? O_o. Idk in your country but in mine retirement age is 67, so if you have then at 40, you'll be like 58 when your child go to college and that's not retirement age at all. Plus people nowadays live way longer. I know plenty of people in their 90s and even 100s nowadays.
Anyway, not everyone can afford having everything done by 30, so I hate how society pressure you to get married/have kids/an established career all before 30. I personally think the 20s are to enjoy your youth so I would never get married and have kids before that age but that's me.

me either, so i depended a lot on google translate to find things, and if i did find something i would ask my friends that knew the languages to translate it for me.

yeah, i mean it's pretty evident that they have someone in their lives, even during beauty bible you can see it when uee, jupal and jungah are teasing each other about men on screen.

Lol, you caught me! No, actually, the sex scenes are all over the internet.

I think he's try everything he can to be taken seriously as an actor, but directors/writers only want him for his looks. So he goes into filming think he's going to broaden his range, while they go into it think of ways to get him naked. It's kinda depressing to see someone fight against typecasting as much as he has. As his fan I'm super happy with how people bts treat him and that he's ALWAYS working (I'm looking at you Gong Yoo) but I'm pretty sure he's not happy with how everything's turning out. He probably wants more of SJS image (ie pretty face/great body model> crap actor > decent actor > signature "intense eyes" and great role variety > reasonably respected for his craft and not just a cf model).

I still haven't watched EoE :"( I can only stomach makjak when I'm in the perfect mood of bored but optimistic (all the crazy raises my blood pressure and I get really invested in the characters' super depressing lives) plus it's sooo long.

Well your kids here will be in college till 22-25 typically, and if you had them at 40 by the time they enter you have to start getting ready for retirement and all the stuff that goes along with it.

But, it's up to the person. I don't think I'll have kids before 30. Still got things to do, and once you have kids, they take priority. I want them before I get too old though, since I want to see my grandkids.

Yeah, I have to agree on that. People probably want to take him only because of his looks unlike SJS or the other actors his age. He should work on indie film and work his range as an actor so that people can take him seriously. But you got to admit too that he can't really act like his peers so he needs to work on that first. Or act in melodramas which required lots of crying but he needs to work on his crying scenes for that too.

I have to agree on SJS part but what do you mean by crap actor? ahaha he does have crap acting abilities (?) in the early 2000's but after MiSa I honestly think he is one of Korea's finest actors. The way he made me cry in that drama (yes, I cried a river!! haha) -- I think he is the only actor that can make me do that. His eyes.. my goodness his eyes!! -- it speaks a thousand words! XD MiSa is still his best work till this day (there's no way he gonna top that tbh) but he takes good projects over the years so people really respected him for his ability to act and his model works too.

I havent watch East of Eden either haha. I bought the DVD for the longest time but I just dont have time to watch it due to makjang-mess that its going ensure. I advice you not to watch it since you're not gonna like the ending for sure. :P

Yeah, I love him but I would never hire him based on his acting. The only reason he has a career is because he's hot. Honestly I just want him to do romcoms (My Princess was perfectly shows to mediocre actors find their niche and being free to just let loose with the fanservice) for the Hallyu fame and Makjaks (yes some have great acting but a lot of them get by on just having pretty people scream, cry, and OPEN THEIR EYES VERY WIDE to portray sorrow/ shock/ happiness/ evilness/ stupidity/intelligence) to stay relevant in Korea.

I agree SJS is definitely one of the better k-leads. WHIB was my 1st SJS drama, so I've always been basis towards his perfect ability to have an emotionless face while his eyes are filled with endless emotion. He really found his calling, and wish he could open an acting school to help other attractive people be more than eyecandy. I'm really happy he's been changing up his usual gigs by getting that Hong Sis drama. [Basically I need my ajusshi actors to do more romcoms]

I almost bought the DVD too. But then I was like "out of 50 hrs I'll probably fast-forward through at LEAST 30...better just stream it when I feel like he's been on a long hiatus."

ahahaha such shade with the open eyes acting lol. I have to admit that some actors did those to express emotions. IDK if I can take it if he do melodrama but I probably will laugh where I'm not supposed to. :X But when you think of it, he kind of already done melodrama with Autumn in My Heart & Summer Scent.

And you are right about SJS's perfect ability to have an emotionless face while his eyes are filled with endless emotion. I couldnt agree for more. My first drama of his is MiSa and I bought the VCD for WHIB since I already become huuuuge fan of his after watching the tear-filled MiSa. Its been nearly 10 years since I watched WHIB but I remember that his character supposed to be emotionless but his eyes there speaks a thousand words at the same time. I hated Jo Insung's character in that drama and remain indifference towards him until today. >.>

Thinking back, East of Eden does have lots of A-list actors but I dont think I can survive the makjangs moreover after I know the ending. >.

Honestly I'm not even here for melos, but he's been doing average/mediocre in ratings. So a good weekend makjak would be a great career resurgence (or at least a boost). [It's actually kinda weird that he work as much as he does. He could easily be a cf model with a new drama every 3/4 years, yet he's here putting out both dramas and MOVIES (Korea tends to leave the obvious eyecandy actors out of their film industry) every year. I guess he really does love his job (or money...or he's just plain bored when he's not working).]

I hated and loved EVERY character in that show (they were all awful yet so entertainingly scandalous), but SJS played his character in a way that made him a little more interesting than the other leads.

I've seen people write that EoE was a mess, while other said it was great but a little sloppy near the end (like every kdrama ever).

I really dont think he love the money but I think he just enjoyed working unlike Wonbin or other non-active actors/actresses out there. Actually I love when actors enjoy what they're doing instead of just doing it for the sake of popularity since you can see the passion in the eyes when they're acting. Not many are like this so despite the so so acting ability of SSH, I appreciate his dedication to his works and craft lol. :DD
