[identity profile] omona they didn't! posting in [community profile] omonatheydid

Hello omona! In light of recent events we have decided to clear up a few things about the way things work around here. What are these recent events you might ask? Well this post was brought to our attention and we gotta admit: we were really disappointed by it. This isn't the first time people have complained about the mods or the community but they really crossed the line here. ifuaskedmeto took turdymod's tweets from her own account about her feelings on anti-Asian racism in ONTD kpop posts, took them out of context, and were used against us. Those tweets had absolutely nothing to do with the rejections they were talking about, and concluded that we as a community were all racist. The thing is, the user never even tried to PM any of us to work on the post together or discuss any of their issues but instead they just straight up went to ONTD and well, you can see it for yourself.

So why did we reject the post?
- It presented rumor as fact, there was never any proof it was a tribute
- no proof was presented even after rejection and asking for resubmission
- Since this would have been an "original article" we felt that it was irresponsible & dangerous, and did not want to be apart of spreading this unconfirmed and extremely sensitive information.
- We had to consider Omona's reputation. If we were to approve the post it would have given people even more of an ammunition that we purposely attract trolls. Did you know: The author of the Spin article is getting death threats for what he said, which was coincidentally taken from the ONTD article. We don't want death threats.
- It's not even like we rejected any of the posts regarding GD's fuckery. You read all about it here, and if more developments happen they will be posted.
- The main issue here is integrity and we would like to hold on to what little we have.

edit: what was the post in question?

the article they were trying to submit was an article about her own article at ontd which was original. which was where she made the statement that gd thinks he's a "n****" and is doing a trayvon martin tribute. the spin author saw this and took it as some sort of fact and then spread it as fact by writing their own article.

us publishing the article would be further spreading the misinformation.

Obviously not everybody in the community is educated on the matters of racism. Why should we accept posts that are incendiary when our members are still at odds about the topic? That makes no sense. For them to get upset that we want quality articles indicates that having high standards didn't interest them. However people expect high standards from us. What's even weird is that they don't even get to see the page views, the analytics, so they can't even tell how many people are reading. Also, they're doing just fine in ONTD, which draws in a bigger audience and it even got them them international attention. We just want original Omona articles about racism to be decently written. We don't really care about making people laugh in that regard. We were definitely willing to work with them but it simply was not the case.

People say that Omona members are just full of fangirls that don't give a shit about racial issues and I think that's not fair to the people who put in work to argue with all the ignorant and racist bullshit, and you know who you are. We commend all of you because we personally know how exhausting it is to argue with someone over the Internet about social issues and they don't back down. YET YOU DON'T EVER GIVE UP and we all are really proud of you for keeping it up. The demographics post indicated that at least 11% of the members, non-members, and lurkers are black and the community itself has taken a stance against racism. We know that we're not all going to agree and there will always be some racist bullshit that goes on here but the members, you guys, put in work to call each other out on this stuff.

Regarding the allegations that mods (who are apparently white racists... this is not true) don't care and don't do shit, we'd like to tell you how we work. Mods do more than accept/reject posts, we deal with a lot of the BTS stuff like these in recent times:

1. We respond to PMs about other members or whatever issues they have with omona. Emails, too.
2. Involvement with members on their original content including contests, member participation stuff
3. Omona demographics for example, was one or two members constantly reminding turdymod about it (you know who you are lawl)
4. Working with two members on the open letter to blackface post
5. When a couple of people voiced their disappointment in the lack of mod presence for when trouble is brewing we had a discussion about it and decided on special new OPDs. These OPDsand they monitor the posts. They are seasoned members of the community and for their safety they are incognito. BTW you can always message them if there's any trouble. Check out the profile for their names.
6. Do you see the links at the top and on the side? The slider? All updated manually by three different mods on their own time.
7. Accept new members into Omona every two weeks or when the membership queue reaches 100, whichever comes first.
8. Review any proposals for possible collaborations from outside organizations or websites
9. Discuss potential troublemakers in all the wank posts. We act only when a consensus is reached between at least 3 mods and opds.

I'm sure there's more. So as you can see, there's a lot of time and effort that goes into making this place work. We've always said that we don't want to treat the members with kid gloves. As always if you don't like the way things get done around here, we won't get mad if you leave.

To conclude: we all come here for kpop. We all care about the same issues. We all come here for each other. Let's continue making this a pleasant experience for us all.

Thank you for your time, you've all been incredibly supportive not only to us but to each other and let's continue to work towards positivity, tolerance, and decency.

BTW: If you'd like to submit an original Omona article about anything you like, PM us and we can work together.
