Co-Ed Group CHECKMATE Disbands After Just One Year

After just one year together, CHECKMATE has officially disbanded.

On December 17, CHECKMATE’s official YouTube channel posted the following statement in Korean:

"Hello, K-pop fans.

This is the content creator and manager of CHECKMATE’s YouTube channel.

First, I apologize for not having been able to produce new content for a long time.

CHECKMATE has disbanded following the end of their “YOU” promotions.

Each of the CHECKMATE members will greet you all with a new image through their individual activities.

Starting from January 2022, this channel will undergo a renewal and change into a channel that produces K-pop content.

We are currently exchanging opinions with the members about content promotions.

In January 2022, we will greet you together with the members as we actively produce new content.

Thank you."

The group only released two singles, "Drum" in September, 2020 and "You", in March 2021.

It's such a shame that co-ed groups don't do very well in Korea, really missing out D:

its difficult being a knock off of KARD when they arent that successful either.

aww co-ed school were amazing! HELLO 인사부터 할게 (https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x7pfu22) they gave us gems like this that i still laugh my ass off to 11 years later. the mr removed is what started it but honestly the normal performance is ridiculous too (https://youtu.be/YGQcwOplBYM?t=50)

I liked You and I remember they promoted it for a while. I hope things go well for the ex-members in the future.

:( I'm not surprised given how shady their company seemed, but as someone who was pulling for them and liked both their singles surprisingly a lot, this is still disappointing. Well, I still listen to both You and Drum to this day and I guess I'll just continue to do so

Aww! I tried to find the mr removed vid of this on YouTube a while back and was so sad that it was deleted lol. Thanks for this!

GOSH DANGIT. See. I should NEVER get interested in nugu groups because this type of thing always happens.

Drum is a jam. And You is Drum 2.0. They were my clubbing music fix. Actually disappointed by this.

Yeah. the sound is similar. but Checkmate at least TRIED to have 3 guys and 2 girls to be different, but then that one guy left so the comparisons are difficult to avoid.

and even the group name. Checkmate? KARD? i mean come on.

aw, drum was a fun song. i like co-ed groups a lot in theory bc gender equality and all that, and i wish there were more of them, but at the end of the day i still don't find men very interesting so it's hard to get on board as a fan.
