From what I've learned so far in cultural anthropology East Asian societies tend to be less direct when writing. For example, in America we're trained to write our thesis at the beginning of our essays with the rest of the essay being supportive evidence. Meanwhile in Asia they "circle" around the point with the evidence first, then give the thesis at the end.

Plus they're a high context culture, where they don't just "spit it out" like low context cultures (where we verbally explain almost everything in a to the point manner).
