When Adoption Stories Don’t Have Happy Endings (Slate, 22 November 2016): The wrenching story of Adam Crapser, brought to the United States at the age of three, and deported to South Korea at forty-one, his abusive adoptive parents never having gotten him US citizenship. His wife and children are still in the US. 35,000 international adoptees, more than half of them Korean-American, also lack US citizenship; the Adoptee Citizenship Act may give it to them, if it passes.
